Reaching out to Uganda

2012 marks 5 years since Dorcas left our church and began working with FOCUS (fellowship of Christian Unions) Uganda as Communications Officer. Our church continues to give some financial support Dorcas from our tithe fund. Damon, the General Secretary of FOCUS, is her supervisor and he came to visit us last November. FOCUS is part of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students IFES.

Dorcas writes,

“This year has been a whirlwind blowing! The first quarter has been extremely busy.

We spent over a month with students from Ndejje University studying the Psalms and writing a study guide that was used at the Annual Easter Camp. At the end of this training many said it was life changing and an eye opener and were repentant as in the past they had used Scripture to mean what they wanted.

The Easter camp went well and students were challenged to think beyond themselves and become relevant Christians in society.

In March we held a Bible and Life conference for 70 students after which 2 of them Mark and Sarah are now studying the Bible with their non believing friends.

We met with final year students from Kyambogo University sharing with them about life after campus – A common thing was the pressure to get married as soon as finishing university. There are many myths to deal with.

There is much to share with you but not enough space! I find that the more I interact with students, the more I love my work. There is so much to do to help young people study and engage with scripture for themselves. This work must continue. I think the Church here is in dire need of people who follow Christ and not the pastor.

THANK YOU for your love, prayer and support. We are truly grateful and appreciate everything you do for us.

Much love

Dorcas, Grace and Daniel”

Please pray for

  • students who are doing exams now.
  • Dorcas as she balances work and family. She needs a house help and hasn’t been able find one since Jan.
  • Focus child project started 1992 – a community programme supporting children and families living in a slum area of Kampala.
